Violet Munro

Violet Munro began her tile business over 60 years ago in Richmond Hill, New York. She painted Pennsylvania Dutch designs on milk cans, trays, mugs, and anything that looked interesting to paint on. Her artistic talent blossomed after a nervous breakdown. The psychiatrist told her to do something with her hands to keep her mind occupied. She made a hand painted tile for Arthur Godfrey, one of the first television talk hosts. Violet was contracted by Perry Como to do a tile mural of chickens and roosters in his kitchen on Long island.

Violet gave her testimony at Christian Woman’s clubs across the country in the 1970’s. She was married to Henry Munro for fifty years until his death in 1994. He was her prince without the shining armor.
