Violet

Violet Munro began her business over 50 years ago in Richmond Hill, New York. She was painting Pennsylvania Dutch designs on milk cans, trays, mugs and anything that looked interesting to paint on. A friend encouraged her to make something for Arthur Godfrey, a talk show host who enjoyed tea. Hence, the first tile was made and shown on national TV. Violet moved to Long Island, New York and designed many fire place facings. She once made a mural for Perry Como's kitchen. She created personalized tiles such as baby's birth and wedding tiles which make unique gifts. Penny, her daughter watched her work over the years and when the Munro's moved to upstate New York in 1964, she started to help on occasion with the business. Penny would wrap garden ornaments, cork back the tiles, paint and also help deliver orders. Her dad taught her how to silk screen when his eyesight started to fail. Penny still dabbles with the hand painted tiles, but writing novels, takes up most of her time. Laugh, clown laugh is based on Violet's life. Penny is open to new designs. Violet Pearl Munro 1921-2011
